Delhi Schools Close Once Again Due to Air Pollution

Schools in Delhi, India, were ordered to close by officials from December 3 until further notice due to the city’s air quality crisis.

The schools had been reopened for just 4 days after being shut since November 13 due to poor air quality, according to Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai.

‘We had reopened schools considering the forecast that air quality would improve. However, the air pollution levels have increased again and we have decided to shut schools from Friday till further orders.’

Delhi was ranked the most polluted capital city in the world in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Air quality reportedly worsened after firework displays during Diwali celebrations on November 4. Farm fires have also been named a source of the pollution.

A ban on all construction activities in the city has also been enacted and is in place until further notice.
