Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, access to abortion care is being limited. Some states immediately felt the impact of the decision as their abortion clinics had to close and cancel appointments. One state in particular is Alabama.

Following the June 24 SCOTUS ruling, Alabama’s Attorney General Steve Marshall declared that abortion clinics were in violation of state law and needed to promptly cease operations. If they didn’t, they could face a penalty of up to 99 years in prison.

As a result, places like the West Alabama Women’s Center had to cancel 100 abortion appointments. The center directed people to clinics in Atlanta instead, where the procedure is currently still legal.

Although abortion pills are currently illegal in Alabama, patients can place orders online and recieve shipments from overseas, as well as travel to neighboring states to get them.
