Bodycam Footage Shows Police Rescue of Kidnapped 8-Year-Old Girl

The footage of the rescue was released on November 18.

Bodycam footage released on November 18 from Fort Worth Police shows the harrowing rescue of a kidnapped 8-year-old girl.

The girl was kidnapped on May 18, while she was walking with her mom on the street after a man snatched the girl from her mother’s arms. Forest Hill police got a tip a few hours later to search 51-year-old Michael Webb’s hotel room.

Authorities found nothing in their initial search, but returned 2 hours later and found the girl hidden in a laundry basket. Webb told investigators the girl remained quiet during the first search because he had threatened to hurt her family if she didn’t.

During the rescue, Corporal Jay Young carried the girl to a police vehicle outside. He later said that, despite her harrowing circumstances, she was the one comforting him.

“She ended up patting me on the shoulder and telling me that she was OK," he said. "She was a brave little girl."

Webb had been arrested 16 previous times and confessed to the kidnapping. He was sentenced to life in prison on November 14, having been charged with sexual assault and kidnapping. The Forrest Hill police chief also reportedly fired a sergeant for expressing doubt in the tip that led to the second hotel room visit.
