Despite a lengthy career starring in some of the highest-grossing films of all time, it seems that even Bryce Dallas Howard is not immune from the retrograde impulses of Hollywood.

In an interview with Metro, the 41-year-old spoke about her experience returning to the character Claire in this summer’s 'Jurassic World Dominion' (the third time she’s played the role) and revealed that unidentified executives put pressure on her to lose weight.
‘[I’ve] been asked to not use my natural body in cinema,’ Howard said. ‘[T]he conversation came up again, ‘we need to ask Bryce to lose weight.''

Howard’s co-star DeWanda Wise also said she had a similar experience shooting the movie.

‘It’s always something,’ Wise told Metro. ‘There was a lot of resistance to [Wise’s character] Kayla having muscle, to what it means to be a woman, look like a woman. It’s just every side, it’s relentless and impossible.’

Interestingly, Howard said it was the film’s director, Colin Trevorrow, who drew a line in the sand by telling execs that his cast members’ body sizes were non-negotiable.

‘On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me … He was like, ‘There are lots of different kinds of women on this planet and there are lots of different kinds of women in our film’ and I got to do so many stunts that wouldn’t have been possible if I had been dieting,’ Howard said.

‘So I’m really thrilled [at] all the action I got to do, and I got to do it with my body, she was at her maximum strength, and I hope it is just yet another indication of what’s possible,’ she continued.
