The average dog parent spends more than $22,000 in veterinary bills over the lifetime of a 15-year-old dog, according to claims data examined by pet insurance company Fetch by The Dodo. And in 2022, a Forbes Advisory survey found that more than 2 in 5 pet parents said they would go into debt if confronted with an unexpected medical bill for their dog or cat.
‘Our dogs can tell us a lot, like when it's time for a walk or their next meal, but they're not great at communicating their health needs, until they might need treatment,’ Sam Negrin, Fetch’s Director of Marketing, told NowThis.
To help pet parents care for their beloved dogs without breaking the bank in the process, Fetch by The Dodo pet insurance just launched a first-of-its-kind 'pet health prediction' tool that helps dog parents predict the illnesses and accidents their pup is prone to, with key insights that can help them take preventative measures at an earlier stage.
The program was built using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and a team of veterinary professionals. Fetch says it has taken 16 years of clinical health findings and 150+ million data points from over 725,000 dogs — including 500+ breeds — to be able to accurately predict future illnesses, injuries, and accidents.
