FL Official Appointed by DeSantis Resigns Over Allegedly Wearing KKK Robe
Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young confronted Jeffery Moore of the photo, which depicts the latter wearing wearing a white Ku Klux Klan costume, but did not deny that it was him.
Jeffery Moore, a Florida official recently appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, resigned from his position last week after a photo surfaced online of him seemingly in a Ku Klux Klan robe and hood. It’s not clear when the photo was taken, but local newspaper Tallahassee Democrat reported that it was taken at “a Halloween party years earlier.”
Moore worked on the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners. He was the only Republican and white person on the board alongside four Black commissioners. His county is also predominantly Black. A pastor from his district told the Tallahassee Democrat that it “appears to be him, but we're going to formally ask for the truth. We deserve that.”
Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young, who is Black, reportedly confronted Moore about the picture and told Politico that “[Moore] never denied at all. Refuted nothing when I showed him the pictures.” Young then reportedly told Moore that he needed to resign.
“Please accept this notification of my resignation, effective this date of Sept. 23, 2022, from the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners,” Moore wrote to DeSantis. “Thank you for the opportunity to have served in the position, however for personal reasons I am no longer able to continue.”
