Lyft Is Offering Free Rides For The 2020 Elections
The program started with the Iowa Caucus and goes through the general 2020 election.
Attention, 2020 voters: Lyft is offering free rides for the primary and general elections.
“This election year, for the first time, we’re providing voters with free and discounted rides to the polls throughout the entire primary calendar and the general election,” Lyft said in a January 31 announcement.
In lieu of offering public ride codes, the rideshare company is working with a network of partner groups, including the League of Women Voters and Voto Latino Foundation, that will distribute rides to people in their networks whom they feel are in most need of transportation to vote.
However, they will also be offering information later in the year on how the broader public can take advantage of their efforts, which started with the Iowa Caucus and will go through the general election.
Lyft has also joined the Time to Vote coalition with 383 other companies. In joining the collation, the organizations are pledging to encourage their employees to vote by giving them paid time off on Election Day, providing information on early voting options, or making November 3 a day without meetings.
To determine the Democratic and Republican candidates for the general election, every U.S. state and territory will have a series of primaries or caucuses — make sure you know when the primaries in your state are happening.
