After almost 7 months of war, McDonald’s is officially available again in Ukraine.
The fast-food chain reopened 3 locations in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Tuesday, and people raced to be first in line to enjoy their favorite burger and fries.
One of the first customers to get his hands on some McDonald’s, identified by Reuters as Mykhailo, described his experience as “pure happiness.”
Demand was so high that not everyone had a chance to purchase meals on day one, but McDonald’s says it will be reopening more locations in Ukraine in the weeks ahead.
Despite the first-day rush and resulting canceled orders, many customers remained excited at what the return of McDonald’s in the region symbolizes for the future of their nation. Perhaps customer Anastasiia Tolchynska summed it up best, telling Reuters: “I am happy we have McDonald’s and the Russians don’t … Let the truth be on our side.”
