Megan Thee Stallion Set To Headline Historic TwitchCon Party With All-Women Lineup

TwitchCon will run from October 7 to 9 in San Diego.

The world of tech and gaming has long been considered an exclusionary space for women. However, this year’s TwitchCon is working to break that narrative — with a very familiar face.

Hip hop artist and rapper Megan Thee Stallion will be headlining a TwitchCon Party on October 8 with an all-woman lineup alongside other women artists like Kim Petras, DJ Lani Love, TIGERMOMTOY, and Meet Me @ The Altar, a pop-punk group made up entirely of women of color.

The concert is one of the signature events of TwitchCon, a three-day convention meant to celebrate and promote all things gaming and streaming. In addition to her rapping ability, Megan Thee Stallion has a reputation for being an avid gamer in her personal life, so the gig seems like a natural fit.

In recent years, many women gamers have come forward with stories of online abuse and harassment they have experienced as their presence in the world of gaming continues to grow. In fact, a 2021 survey revealed that 59% of women gamers say they hide their gender in an attempt to avoid online harassment and threats.

The all-women concert, therefore, is a small but historic way for TwitchCon to amplify women's voices at the intersection of music, gaming, and streaming, especially as the event reconvenes in-person in North America for the first time in 3 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TwitchCon will run from October 7 to 9 in San Diego. Attendees can see Megan Thee Stallion and the rest of the woman-powered performances at Petco Park, while many of the convention’s other high profile events will be held at the famous San Diego Convention Center, which has also been the home of ComicCon since 1979.
