Michelle Obama “Becoming” Doc Is Coming To Netflix
“During this difficult time, I hope you’ll find some inspiration and joy in this film.”
A documentary chronicling Michelle Obama’s book tour of her best-selling memoir “Becoming” will soon be available on Netflix.
The former First Lady and the streaming service announced the upcoming documentary on Monday.
“During this difficult time, I hope you’ll find some inspiration and joy in this film,” Obama said on Twitter.
I’m excited to share that on May 6, @Netflix will release BECOMING, a documentary directed by Nadia Hallgren that shares the stories of the amazing people I met after the release of my memoir. The documentary will start streaming May 6 and is the newest film to be released under Barack and Michelle Obama’s company Higher Ground Productions, in partnership with Netflix. It follows Obama’s travels through more than 30 cities around the world for her “Becoming” tour starting in November 2018.
“Those months I spent traveling — meeting and connecting with people in cities across the globe — drove home the idea that what we share in common is deep and real and can’t be messed with,” Obama wrote on Instagram. “I treasure the memories and that sense of connection now more than ever, as we struggle together to weather this pandemic, as we care for our loved ones, tend to our communities, and try to keep up with work and school while coping with huge amounts of loss, confusion, and uncertainty.”
The news follows Obama’s public advocacy for voter access via voting by mail, early in-person voting, and online voter registration as the spread of coronavirus continues to force primary delays and threaten public health. She has also been reading children’s books over free live streams for kids who are stuck at home.
