Photos: U.S. & World Reacts After Derek Chauvin Was Convicted Of Murdering George Floyd

People in cities including Minneapolis, New York, and Los Angeles gathered in relief after the ex-police officer who killed George Floyd was convicted of murder.

The news was heard around the world: Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis officer, was convicted of murdering George Floyd, nearly one year after kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes. The Minneapolis jury deliberated for mere hours before announcing it had reached a decision on Tuesday.

While activists and lawmakers have quickly pointed to the need for reform beyond a rare conviction for police violence, people across the U.S. and world took to the streets, or to memorial sites for Floyd, to once again gather at a time of shocking news. Below are scenes from cities and countries spanning from Minneapolis to Kenya.
