More Palestinian Children Were Killed in 1 Week Than Ukrainian Children Were Killed in 1 Year
Amid closed borders and limited aid, children in Gaza have been gravely affected by the current conflict.
More Palestinian children have been killed in the first week of this month’s Israel-Gaza war than in the entire first year of Russia’s war in Ukraine, according to numbers from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Amid closed borders and limited aid, children in Gaza have been gravely affected by the current conflict. At least 600 children were killed during the first week of the conflict, which began on October 7, per OHCHR.
Meanwhile, the same agency found that at least 487 children were killed in Ukraine in the first year of Russia's war, which began in February 2022.
A Palestinian mother who fled her home in Gaza City with her husband and 2 daughters told the AP that the ‘worry is now sinking in.’
As a parent, she is more concerned about her children’s safety than her own. "Losing our lives, it’s ok, it’s God’s will," she said. "But the suffering, seeing our kids torn or severely injured, etc., not being able to treat them, to hospitalize them. It’s really just beyond thinking."
