Puppy In Jackson, Missouri Has A Tail Growing Out Of His Head

He is, very appropriately, named Narwhal.

This Missouri pup has an extra tail—that sticks right out of the middle of his head.

The rescue dog—appropriately named Narwhal—is being cared for by Rochelle Steffen, the founder of Mac’s Mission rescue in Jackson, MO which specializes in special needs dogs. She learned about Narwhal after several friends tagged her in a Facebook post about a pair of abandoned puppies.

“We’ve seen some dogs with extra things but not like this,” she said.

After visiting the vet, it was discovered that there are no bones in Narwhal’s extra tail, which is about a third of the size of his other tail. It also doesn’t seem to cause him any pain.

The puppy is not yet up for adoption, because Steffen and the rescue crew want him to "grow a bit more and truly make sure the tail doesn't become a bother or a problem.” With all the attention his pictures have received online, there have been plenty of offers for a forever home.

Narwhal’s internet fame has also helped spread the word about Steffen and her mission to protect and empower animals with special needs. She said all the attention "is majorly epic for so many new folks to find out about our awesome little rescue."
