Selena Gomez Returns to Instagram After a 4+ Year Break From Social Media

Selena Gomez, the second-most followed woman on Instagram, shocked fans by making a surprise return to the app after a multi-year hiatus.

In a January 12 Instagram post, the 30-year-old singer-actor posted a series of photos of herself with the caption, “Wait can you tell I’m back on Instagram”’ Many users enthusiastically celebrated the unexpected development, with one commenting, “10000% and we are here for it!!”

Usually, a celebrity posting a selfie to Instagram wouldn’t really be news — except for the fact that Gomez specifically has been outspoken about avoiding social media. In an April 2022 interview with “Good Morning America,” Gomez claimed she hadn’t personally been on the internet in more than 4 years, saying at the time that her long break “has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people.”

Even when she went on her social media hiatus, though, Gomez never erased her social footprint. She instead relied on a team to manage her online presence, rather than taking the reins herself. Now that that’s changed, fans everywhere are surely curious to see whether it lasts.
