A student at North Caddo Elementary Middle School in Vivian, Louisiana, was assaulted last month — and a substitute teacher is allegedly to blame.

Aadrina Salean Smith, a 24-year-old substitute P.E. teacher at the school, was arrested on September 12. Smith is accused of paying $5 to 5 different children to jump and assault another student while she looked on and watched.

The incident reportedly took place on August 23 during the students’ gym class. Video evidence shows Smith speaking with the students before the incident, and then seemingly congratulating 3 of the 5 attackers. Smith can also be seen sitting and watching from the bleachers as the victim lays on the gym floor, and then helps themself up, without any aid from the teacher. Smith did not report the incident to the school, nor the authorities.

After the attack, Smith was arrested and charged with five counts of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and malfeasance in office. According to a spokesperson for the Caddo Parish public schools, she was also fired.

Smith is currently being held on a $10,000 bond. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says a larger investigation into the situation is still unfolding and that “more arrests are pending.”
