Taco Bell says it will be bringing back its Mexican Pizza permanently after a series of hiatuses from the menu. The fan favorite will reportedly make its return on September 15 — an earlier-than-expected date that Taco Bell credits to the fact that the company “worked quickly to restock the beloved menu item.”

“Taco Bell worked diligently to resolve depleted ingredients and supply chain challenges that originally caused longer gaps in the product's availability,” the company said, noting that the dish will be made with the same ingredients as before.

The fast-food chain initially took Mexican Pizza off the menu in November 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Taco Bell then put it back on the menu to great publicity and fanfare in May, only to take it off again shortly thereafter after high demand caused the item to sell out.

The Mexican Pizza is so popular, it even inspired its own prospective musical. Singers Doja Cat and Dolly Parton were reportedly set to collaborate on a project called “Mexican Pizza: The Musical,” after Doja Cat posted a rap about the cult snack on TikTok with lyrics like “I got beans, I need meat,” and “I will end you if you ever dare to go discontinued.” Initially slated to come out on May 26, the TikTok musical has been postponed, per an update from Taco Bell.
