While President Joe Biden was being sworn in this week to the highest office in the United States following a historic election, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his mittens were stealing the show. The Vermont senator became a glorious meme during and after the inauguration and now, the woman who made the mittens said she’s received thousands of requests for the mittens.

Jen Ellis, who is a school teacher from Essex Junction, VT, made the mittens from recycled materials for the senator in 2016, according to “Good Morning America.”

"I take wool sweaters that would otherwise be thrown away, cut them up, piece them together and I line them with fleece,” Ellis told GMA.

Ellis told several outlets that she received thousands of emails requesting to buy the mittens. She tweeted on Wednesday that while she was “flattered” that Sanders wore them to such a big day, she sadly had no mittens for sale.

As for Sanders, he has since seen the memes.

“Yeah I’ve seen ‘em,” Sanders said in an interview for Late Night With Seth Meyers Thursday night. “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.”

While many people joked that Sanders looked like he had other things to do that day, he told Meyers that it was an emotional day attending the inauguration.

“I was in tears seeing the new president getting sworn in and the old president leaving Washington,” Sanders said.

Sanders’ mysterious manila envelope was another point of interest for the internet but the senator told Meyers he’s keeping his mouth shut about that. A source told BuzzFeed News it was “the envelope his inauguration tickets came in.”

“I’d love to tell you Seth, it’s top secret,” Sanders joked.
