WATCH: Woman Arrested After Attempting to Burn MLK's Birth Home
A woman was arrested and charged with attempted arson and interference with government property after allegedly trying to burn down Martin Luther King Jr.'s birth home in Atlanta, Georgia.
Laneisha Shantrice Henderson, 26, was seen by witnesses pouring what appeared to be gasoline on the house's windows on December 7. According to WSB-TV, Henderson was detained by 2 off-duty NYPD officers until Atlanta police arrived. Atlanta police Chief Darin Schierbaum said, 'That action saved an important piece of American history tonight.'
Since MLK's home is owned and operated by the National Park Service, Henderson could also face federal charges.
