Exclusive: Watch Joe Biden's Emotional Interview With Activist Ady Barkan

Ady Barkan, who is living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal disease, spoke with former VP Joe Biden about health care, police brutality, overcoming grief, and more.

In a wide-ranging interview, former Vice President and presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden committed to fighting for a major expansion of Medicare and said he supported a policing agenda that would see some funding and responsibilities now assigned to police devoted instead to mental health counseling and other social services.

Biden's remarks came during an interview with health care activist Ady Barkan, which is airing exclusively on NowThis.

Barkan, a universal health care advocate, was in his mid-30s with a newborn son when he was diagnosed with terminal ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2016. He gained national prominence a year later after he was filmed on an airplane debating a GOP senator over legislation that would have repealed the Affordable Care Act.

Barkan also endorsed Biden in his run for president.

"I am endorsing Joe Biden because he is everything Trump is not: compassionate, intelligent, and committed to the public interest," Barkan said.
