Trump Says Future Presidents Will Be Impeached Over Oranges
The bizarre forecast was in response to a reporter asking him about his own impeachment hearings.
While in London for the NATO summit on Tuesday, President Trump went into a bizarre rant about how future presidential impeachment inquires will be made (and that they will involve fruit).
While he and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau answered press questions, Trump said, “Someday, hopefully in a very long, distant future, you'll have a Democrat president, you'll have a Republican House, and they'll do the same thing, because somebody picked an orange out of a refrigerator and you don't like it, so let's go and impeach him."
Trump’s odd forecast was in response to a reporter asking him about his own impeachment hearings and if there will be a Senate trial. During a lengthy rant, he claimed that “Republicans have never been stronger, never been more unified,” while, “the Democrats have gone crazy.” He also called Rep. Adam Schiff “a maniac.”
“I think [Schiff] grew up with a complex for lots of reasons that are obvious,” Trump continued. “I think he's a very sick man. And he lies."
The comments come on the same day the House Intelligence Committee released its impeachment inquiry report, stating explicitly that Trump abused his power by trying to get Ukranian officials to help influence the 2020 election in his favor, and then tried to obstruct the impeachment investigation that followed. “The evidence of the President’s misconduct is overwhelming,” the report read.
According to the U.S. Constitution, impeachment involves removing the president, the vice president or any other civil officers from their station over conviction of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” It makes no mention of petty refrigerator theft or oranges.
