Brie Larson Is Pushing for an All-Women Superhero Movie
Brie Larson is pushing hard for an all-women Marvel movie.
Captain Marvel star Brie Larson wants an all-female Marvel movie—and she’s not alone.
The actor revealed that she and other Marvel heroes have pushed the idea to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in an October interview with Variety.
“I will say that a lot of the female cast members from Marvel walked up to Kevin and we were like, ‘We are in this together, we want to do this.’ That that means, I have no idea…” she explained. “It is something that we’re really passionate about and we love and I feel like if enough people out in the world talk about how much they want it, maybe it’ll happen.”
Elizabeth Olsen, who has played the Scarlet Witch in several Marvel films, also expressed her support for a fully-femme superhero movie to Buzzfeed, stating, “I feel like all the men in Marvel movies have done such a brilliant job with satisfying a lot of things our audiences want..And to give [women] more screen time, I think would be a huge impact, because comics aren’t just for boys who want to watch big boys.”
Feige has previously expressed an interest in the concept, but no concrete concepts have been announced yet.
“Captain Marvel,” which had Larson at its helm, grossed more than $1 billion in 2019, and paved the way for even more Marvel movies with women leads. Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, is getting her own film in 2020, and Natalie Portman will play Thor in “Thor: Love and Thunder” in 2021.
