At 8 years old, Licypriya Kangujam is leading a climate youth movement in India, urging lawmakers to cap carbon emissions in one of the world's most polluted cities, Delhi.
The air quality in Delhi was so bad in 2019 that schools were closed and private vehicle traffic was restricted. People in cities like Delhi are breathing air that's 9 times dirtier than what the EPA considers healthy.
'I am worried about the health of the school children and small, small babies,' says Licypriya.
Local media reportedly calls the activist 'Greta of India,' a moniker she dislikes. 'We have our own identity, own name, own country, and own story,' she argues.
Licypriya has been an activist since she was just 4 years old — when she and her father delivered money and supplies to those impacted by a devastating earthquake.
