Rapidly Deteriorating Ice Shows Just How Fast The Climate is Changing

A large portion of the Spalte glacier in Greenland, which had been cracking and receding for decades, broke off in June 2020 — splitting more than 40 square miles of ice from the Arctic's largest shelf.

Scientists say it's because of the climate crisis. Researchers aboard Greenpeace's Arctic Sunrise documented the deteriorating sea ice.

As global temperatures rise, the Arctic's minimum sea-ice extent has shrunk by more than 13% per decade since 1979.
