Scarlet Macaws Get Second Chance at Life in the Wild

26 vulnerable and underweight baby macaws were raised in captivity before being released back into the wild.

The Wildlife Conservation Society and Guatemala's National Council of Protected Areas are working to increase the population of the species in a nature reserve that only has 300 individual scarlet macaws.

The species is threatened in part by habitat loss caused by fires, as well as by poachers who sell them in the illegal pet trade.
