This dog is one of the most endangered mammals on the planet — here's how conservationists are working to save the species from extinction.
550 Painted Dogs left in South Africa, so the team from Wildlife ACT on Somkhanda Community Game Reserve are outfitting them with VHF anti-snare or satellite collars to collect data, observe their daily movements, and understand pack behavior and diet.
The mammals are endangered due to habitat fragmentation, poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and disease.
Thanks to endangered species monitoring programs, 29 Painted Dogs have been saved from poachers.
