23-year-old Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate founded Youth for Future Africa and the Rise Up Movement in 2019, and she's amassed a huge following on social media.
When heavy floods hit Sudan, Ethiopia, and Uganda in September 2020, she felt a new sense of urgency to make her voice heard.
'People are being left with nothing,' she says.
Nakate says countries like the U.S. aren't doing enough to fix the environment they had a hand in damaging.
'I want a president who is going to value the lives of the people and the planet over the profits,' she argues. '[The U.S.'s] urge to take action is too limited.'
