Vending Machine Exchanges Plastic Bottles for Charity Donations

Inside a school in Kyiv, Ukraine, a new vending machine is teaching children to care about the environment and help those in need. The machine accepts plastic bottles as currency and lets students choose a cause to donate money to. They can buy food for stray animals, help older people, or donate to children with special needs. The plastic bottles are sent to be recycled.

The project, launched in October 2020, has already collected more than 5 metric tons of plastic from 6 machines. The founder, Rufat Raimov, says that he’s received additional orders from businesses and would like to put more vending machines in schools across Kyiv, Ukraine, and eventually the world.
