Putting Butter In Your Coffee Might Give You An Extra Boost

Want to know why people are putting butter on their coffee? Fans of the drink say it sends their energy levels through the roof and some people say they feel more focused after drinking it. Celebrities are also huge fans of the beverage — Shailene Woodley says that it will change your life.

The roughly 450-calorie drink acts like a liquid breakfast — brands like Bulletproof Coffee and Know Brainer claim it’s brain food. Founder Dave Asprey said that the drink and his bulletproof diet together helped him lose 100 pounds. However, there isn’t actually any solid evidence that the butter-filled coffee is healthy. A nutrition professor at the University of Utah broke down the health claims: yes, caffeine can help you focus and the fat calories in butter can help you feel full, but a breakfast with a serving of protein, like fruit and whole grains is a more nutrient-dense option than a cup of fat.

According to registered dietitian Amy Shapiro, if you are eating a lot of sugar and carbs already, drinking a fatty drink is going to do more harm than good, and your body may actually end up storing all that fat, rather than using it for energy.
