Starbucks Has A New Color-Changing Cold Brew Drink

Starbucks is known for creating tasty, caffeine-infused beverages that people can’t get enough of, from photogenic frappuccinos to addicting cold brew coffee. Now the coffee chain shop is at it again, creating a colorful new beverage that will surely be all over Instagram soon. But the catch is — it’s not going to be available everywhere. Starbucks just released an iced coffee that changes colors before your eyes. It’s all thanks so an ancient Asian ingredient called “butterfly pea flower.” Butterfly pea flower tea is naturally blue in color — it changes from blue to deep purple when it’s mixed with acidic lemonade, creating colorful swirls in the cup, almost like a galaxy. It’s been used to dye drinks and food blue for centuries, and grows like ivy across Southeast Asia and South America. It definitely stands out in traditional dishes like the Malay Gluttonous rice dish Kuih Tekan or the Thai dish Chor Maung, which is steamed, dumpling shaped flowers. It has also been gaining popularity with mixologists, who want to create amazing colorful alcoholic beverages.

The Starbucks drink is layered with butterfly pea flower tea, lemonade and Starbucks cold brew. But it is only being sold in 11 markets in Asia currently.
