These might be the healthiest doughnuts you’ve ever eaten — they’re essentially energy bars in doughnut form. They’re also keto, paleo, and vegan-friendly.
The doughnuts are made by the company Fossil Fuel in Alaska, who created them because they wanted to make a snack that people following different types of diets could eat.
Their signature doughnut is the choco-nut, which tastes like dark chocolate and is topped with crushed almonds. The deceptively delicious doughnut is made with maca root, which is said to help boost energy and circulation, as well as cacao, almonds, coconut, and maple.
Is has around 260 calories, which is not far from the average 290-calorie chocolate doughnut. But Fossil Fuel doughnuts have no added sugar, less sodium, and fewer carbs, and more fiber — plus they’re a really good source of iron and protein. They definitely provide more nutrients than your average doughnut and each costs a little more than four dollars.
Fossil Fuel hopes to officially launch in August 2018, and is raising money through a Kickstarter campaign to help finalize the packaging and gain the proper nutritional claim certifications. If it succeeds, then the prospect of a decadent doughnut with actual nutritional value will be a reality.
