Apple CEO Tim Cook: Augmented Reality Is The Future Of The iPhone

Apple CEO Tim Cook says that augmented reality, or AR, is the future of the iPhone.

“If you think about it, we used to carry a separate camera, we no longer have to. We can make photos just as good as a professional photographer,” he explained. “If you think about the power that’s in an iPhone it’s unbelievable, I mean, it’s the power that used to be — more than a mainframe when I was growing up.”

According to Cook, we can now perform five trillion operations-per-second with iPhones. He also thinks that one day we will wonder how we ever lived without it because of the enhanced interactions that can be had using the power of AR.

“The future is now. It’s unbelievable the power that is in the palm of your hand or in your pocket right now,” he explained.

In terms of what people can look forward to with the new iPhone models, Cook explained that they will have faster apps, the Screen Time feature, up to an hour and a half more battery life, and fun features like Memojis.

He says the iPhones are the best place for an “augmented reality experience” because of their innovative games, visuals, and functions.
