Apple is launching an escape room-like AR game with the Oxygen Network.
“Since Oxygen is a true crime network, that’s really looking for multiplatform storytelling, this was just such an innovative way to kind of give out fans a new form of entertainment,” explained producer and forensic detective Kris Soumas.
“Forensic Detective Inside the Crime Scene,” will be available exclusively in Apple’s app store. The app’s challenge starts when you enter the room and find a victim on the floor via your device’s screen. Then, you can go around the room, collecting clues and using your forensic tools to make a match.
Any room in your house can become a thrilling crime scene using Apple’s ARKit 1.5, which can detect vertical planes, like walls.
“So, once it finds the wall, it places the case files right on the wall,” Soumas explained. “It gives out viewers a chance to interact with the story right in their homes.”
The Oxygen Network recently rebranded itself as a multi-platform full-time true crime destination, so this app is the perfect addition to their repertoire. The Game will be available in late May 2018 — so if you’re a fan of crime-centric entertainment this app is for you.
