Jibo Is Like Alexa Or Siri — But Cuter And More Expensive

As NowThis Associate Producer Dain Evans put it, “The story of Jibo is the story of the future.”

Jibo is a robotic digital assistant and, unlike Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri, a physical presence that you can really interact with. But at $900, is the animatronic entity worth it?

To start, since Jibo is a physical robot, and can respond to touch as well as voices. It also allegedly has more of a personality than its non-robotic counterparts. It has the ability to recognize up to 16 different people, and can even recognize a specific person’s voice.
Along with being about to look up information for you, tell you the weather and answer most of your questions, Jibo can also take pictures. However, it can’t send messages, make phone calls or record videos.

Overall first impressions of Jibo was that it was very “lovable,” but that it was likely not worth its hefty price tag. It has plenty of personality, which makes it fun to play with, but in terms of practicality, it’s definitely limited. However, the Jibo team says that it will be capable of performing many different tasks in the future, so maybe it will actually be everyone’s dream assistant one day.
