Scientist Develops New Air Purifier For His Son

Dr. D. Yogi Goswami’s son struggled with severe asthma — so he invented a new kind of air purifier called Molekule.

“The feeling of not being able to help your child — that’s the worst feeling that a parent can have,” he stated.

The renewable energy expert invented a technology called photoelectrochemical oxidation (PECO) that kills air pollutants, like bacteria and viruses. He was motivated to develop PECO after watching his son Dilip struggle with severe asthma.

Dr. Goswami and Dilip tried a variety of medications, herbal remedies, and different air purifiers, but nothing seemed to quell his symptoms.

“And it turned out that I had just developed a solar technology and it worked well for cleaning contaminated ground water,” the doctor explained. “So, I said I could apply that to air also. And so that started my journey for research in that field.”

He researched and experimented with PECO tech for nearly two decades before finalizing the Molekule air purifier. He and his two kids have since commercialized it, and say it is the world’s first molecular air purifier. Independent research from the USF Clean Energy Research Center also shows that Molekule cleans the air better than standard HEPA filters and leaves asthma/allergy sufferers with fewer and less intense symptoms.
