This smartphone modification tells you if you’re living a healthy life. Vital Inc’s health mod is a device that fits onto the back of a Motorola phone and reads your heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, temperature, and blood pressure — all with just your index finger.
“It feels very similar to a traditional arm blood pressure cuff.” Elizabeth Gross, Vital’s Chief Marketing Officer, explained. “The difference, however, is that we have dynamic light scattering sensors which are actually measuring the blood flow as it comes back into your finger. When you have the measurement on your arm it’s actually listening to the blood flow as it comes back through your fingers.”
Vital wants people to use this in their homes so they can stay healthy, especially those with high blood pressure of heart disease.
“This is for consumers at home who are looking to track their health. Maybe someone has a tendency towards heart disease or diabetes would use this as a tool to measure their health every day.” Gross explained.
All you do is insert your finger into the cuff and wait two minutes for your results with Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital. Vital Inc showed off its product at the Mobile World Congress with the help of Motorola and Lenovo.
