Venues with big grand seating plots are beautiful to look at — but imagine watching those seats moving around and disappearing into the floor like they’re alive. Well, now auditoriums can do just that while completely transforming themselves, thanks to a pretty cool few pieces of technology.
Gala Systems’ “Spiralift Technology” installs and programs seating into auditoriums that can be operated to move around — or disappear into the floor entirely.
Spiralift uses two different bands of intertwined stainless steel to create a column that uses electronic motor drives to move, adjust, and synchronize seats. The system is totally modular, so it can work in any venue.
According to Gala Systems’ website, “Spiralift requires relative low-power electric motor drives, thanks to its very high mechanical efficiency. Its units can be configured easily in modular designs to suit any platform or building architecture, and multiple units can be linked to the same train and fully synchronized.
The company claims the system only needs 30 minutes to transform an entire venue. It is currently used in auditoriums around the world, including Spain, Norway, the UK and the U.S. And even if you don’t have a practical use for it, Gala System’s work is just mesmerizing to watch.
