8-Year-Old Donates Piggy Bank Fund To Help Flood Victims In Kerala, India

This girl donated her piggy bank savings to help flood victims.

8-year-old Anupriya was saving up to buy a new bicycle but changed her mind when she saw hundreds reported dead after severe flooding in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Kerala has had more than 37% its usual rainfall in less than three months, which has caused massive flooding and mudslides. More than 350 people have been killed.

“When I saw how people are suffering in Kerala, I wanted to help them too, with my savings,” Anupriya explained to The Hindu.
The child lives nearly 300 miles away in Villupuram, India. She donated approximately $128 to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The money took her four years to save.

Word of her generosity spread on social media. Her good deed was also noticed by Hero Cycles CEO Pankaj Munjal, who rewarded Anupriya for her generosity with a new bike.

“Thanks to you dear Anupriya and pleasure to talk to you mom,” he stated. “I had read every act of kindness has a ripple effect. Through you I experienced, “Some act of kindness may bring an avalanche.” You are truly blessed and keep up this character of strength that you carry.”

Hero Cycles will reportedly give Anupriya a new bike every year.
