Norwegian Soccer Star Ada Hegerberg Asked to Twerk After Winning the Ballon d'Or

This pro soccer player was asked to twerk moments after becoming the first woman to win a prestigious award.

Norwegian soccer star Ada Hegerberg became the first woman to accept the Ballon d’Or, a coveted French award previously given to the best male soccer players. But this year, Hegerberg was awarded the first women’s Ballon d’Or title.

French DJ Martin Solveig followed the historic moment by asking her to twerk on stage, but Hegerberg was having none of it.

Many, including other pro athletes, were outraged by Solveig’s question calling the request “sexist” and proof women athletes still face a lot of discrimination.

Hegerberg says Solveig apologized to her after the incident and says she’s choosing to focus on her historic win.

“I got to dance a bit and I got the Ballon d’Or. And that’s what was in my mind,” she stated.

The French DJ told reporters his question was a joke stating online people, “must have a bit of a sense of humor.”

However he publicly apologized with a video on Twitter, saying he “didn’t know that this could be seen as such an offense.”
