Alicia Keys will be hosting the Grammys.
The iconic recording artist released a behind the scenes look as she gears up for the 61st annual Grammy Awards and her friends and family were thrilled to hear about her hosting the event.
The Grammys has a history of failing to represent the women of the music industry. Of the 899 people nominated from 2012 to 2017, just 9% were women.
Last year, disappointed viewers sparked #GrammysSoMale and recording academy president Neil Portnow responded by saying more women would be recognized if they would “step up” within the industry. Portnow is expected to step down from his role this year.
Keys is the first woman in 14 years to host the event and she says she’s ready to get the show on the road.
“Honestly, I’m really excited, I feel really good about it, because I feel like it’s the perfect opportunity for me to give the light back, lift people up, especially all the young women that are nominated,” she stated.
