Alyssa Milano Opens Up About Her 2 Abortions on 'Sorry Not Sorry' Podcast

Alyssa Milano opened up about two abortions she had in her early 20s.

The 46-year-old activist and actor shared her story of having two abortions within months in an episode of her podcast “Sorry Not Sorry” on August 19, 2019.

“It was my choice it was absolutely the right choice for me. It was not an easy choice,” she said. “It was not something I wanted, but it was something that I needed, like most health care is.”

Milano says she was “not equipped to be a mother” when she first became pregnant in 1993 despite taking birth control pills. She says she became pregnant again months later and faced birth defect risks due to acne medication Accutane, which she had been taking at the time. She said she also wanted to focus on her budding acting career.

“It was devastating. I was raised Catholic and was suddenly put in conflict with my faith,” she explained. “A faith I was coming to realize empowered only men to make every single decision about what was allowed and what was not allowed.”

Milano, now a mother of two, has been an outspoken activist for reproductive rights since #MeToo took off. She also created a state-by-state abortion bill guide for Hollywood to pull their productions from states considering restrictive anti-choice laws.
