BMC Toys Creates 'Plastic Army Women' Per 6-Year-Old Vivian Lord's Request

These “Plastic Army Women” were a six-year-old girl’s idea.

BMC Toys in Scranton, PA manufactures the iconic “Plastic Army Men” figures. On July 31, 2019, the president of the company received a letter from six-year-old Vivian Lord. The letter asked the company why it didn’t make “Girl army men.”

“Why do you not make Girl army men my friends mom is in the army to!!” she stated in the letter. “So why don’t you make them to!!! I saw the pink ones but thows are’t Girls and pepel in the army don’t were pink.”

“It was a heartfelt letter and it reminded me of being a kid and always wanting that toy that you couldn’t get in the gumball machine,” BMC Toys President Jeff Imel stated.

Omel looked into what kind of demand there would be for the toys and decided to go for it. The Plastic Army Women will be sold in four different poses. The figurines will reportedly be available by Christmas 2020.
