Daisy-May Demetre Becomes First Child Model Amputee to Walk at NY Fashion Week
Daisy-May Demetre is the first child model with two amputations to walk at New York Fashion Week. The nine-year-old modeled for kids and teens brand Lulu et Gigi at New York Fashion Week on September 8, 2019.
Daisy-May was born with a rare condition that required both of her legs to be amputated. She has been modeling for 18 months and is represented by Zebedee Management, a modeling agency specializing in models with disabilities. She was joined by her sister, 11-year-old Ella, on the runway.
Zebedee says its goal is to “increase the representation of people with disabilities within fashion, media and the arts.”
“Our belief is that people with many unique characteristics should have the same opportunities as ‘mainstream’ artists,” they explain in their mission statement. “Our aim is to find actors and models work within the industry.”
In April 2019, Daisy-May walked at London Kids Fashion Week, where she was spotted by Lulu et Gigi designer Eni Hegedüs-Buiron.
“I want people to see that beauty is not one-sided,” the designer stated. “It’s a multifaceted thing.”
Daisy-May will model Lulu et Gigi at Paris Fashion Week where she’ll walk in a show that will take place on the top of the Eiffel Tower.
