Rihanna could become the first woman designer of color at the world’s largest luxury fashion brand.
The recording artist is reportedly launching a luxury fashion brand with Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), according to Women’s Wear Daily and the New York Times. The deal with make her the first woman designer of color at LVMH, which houses huge names like Dior, Givenchy, and Fendi. It would also be the first brand LVMH builds from scratch, since it launched Christian Lacroix in 1987.
Further details about the agreement remain unclear and LVMH hasn’t officially announced the partnership. They also declined a request for comment from NowThis.
Rihanna is no stranger to fashion and beauty. In 2014, she struck a deal with Puma and was also named fashion icon of the year at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards. She’s received critical acclaim for her cosmetics line Fenty Beauty, which emphasizes creating products for people of all skin tones. Fenty Beauty was also named one of the TIME Magazine’s 25 Best Inventions of 2017.
Rihanna revealed her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, at NYFW in September 2018. She is also known for slaying the Met Gala most recently in 2018, when she showed up in a papal-inspired look designed by Margiela.
