These sisters turned their love for travel into a business — and it all started with one blanket. Anina, 20, Aviva, 17, and Martina, 13, are the co-founders of Ecuadane, a business that sells artisan accessories from around the world.
“Every year as kids, we would always go to Ecuador to visit our family and we’d take home little souvenirs with a little bit of money that our grandmother would give us,” Aviva explained. “And so one year when we found our blanket, we were — we fell totally in love with it right way because of its softness and how large it was, the colors, and the story behind it.”
The interest and praise the blanket received led the sisters to start their own business. They reconnected with the blanket makers and learned all about their techniques and history. Now they travel around the world to meet with artisans and bring their stories and goods back home.
Ecuadane features crafts from many European and South American countries, and the sisters say they want to help preserve traditional art through their sales.
“We love it when we find a product that has a story behind that involves family or values that we stand for and so yeah, that’s a big thing for us,” Anina explained.
