This teacher was suspended for showing pictures of her wife in class — and reassigned to teach at a different school.
Stacy Bailey has been an elementary school teacher for 10 years and has been named teacher of the year twice. She recently showed pictures of her family, friends, and partner during a “first day of school” slideshow so the students could get to know her better.” A parent then complained that she was pushing a “homosexual agenda” and showed “sexually inappropriate images to children.”
Bailey said HR told her she could no longer “promote her lifestyle” in class, and she was then reassigned to teach at a different school in the district. Now she’s suing the school district and calling for a change in the anti-discrimination policy to protect LGBTQ+ students and teachers.
School officials denied the allegations of discrimination, stating “The districts concern is that Ms. Bailey insists that it is her right and that it is age appropriate for her to have ongoing discussions with elementary-aged students about her own sexual orientation.”
Bailey is seeking to be reinstated in her position at the elementary school and hopes the district will acknowledge their decision to relocate her was both illegal and wrong.
