Feminism is in style at New York Fashion Week. Fashion icons launched several feminist designs, which give back to Planned Parenthood and the Women’s March. Aurora James, the designer behind Brother Vellies, led the launch of the online store Together We Rise, which features designer items inspired by the Women’s March. A new book about the movement was launched and a percentage of all its proceeds will go toward Planned Parenthood and the Women’s March. More than a dozen designers teamed up to launch the site, and hosted a pop-up event ahead of New York Fashion Week.
Aurora James stated on Instagram, “Each of these designers are special people. When I called them this month (this busiest month in fashion) it would have been much easier to say no, then to say yes. But all of these people rose to the occasion and made special pieces for the cause.”
Pieces from NYFW x Together We Rise come with a hefty price tag — they’re still designer clothes after all. But the designers are definitely paying it forward and are advancing amazing causes with their wares. Hopefully the trend of putting more meaningful messages behind brands will continue at Fashion Weeks around the world.
