Trump Admin Cuts Title X Funding For Abortion Clinics And Referring Doctors

Doctors won’t be able to refer women to safe abortion clinics if their facilities want to continue getting government funding.

“This would be the first time ever that doctors would be gagged about what kind of information they could give to their patients,” explained Senator Patty Murray in a video.

According to a new proposal from the Trump Administration, clinics that provide abortions or refer women to places that provide abortions would stop qualifying for Title X government funding.

Millions of women in the U.S. rely on Title X funding, which allows clinics to provide affordable reproductive health care. The policy is also referred to as a domestic gag rule, because doctors would be restricted from telling women about all their family planning options.

“Past versions of the global gag rule have blocked women from getting reproductive and maternal health care that they need,” explained Senator Elizabeth Warren in a video. “Things like contraception, cancer screenings, pregnancy checkups.”

The government already restricts Title X funds from directly paying for abortions, but this rule takes it a step further. Many are calling it a direct attack on facilities like Planned Parenthood, which would lose millions of dollars under the new rule.
