The fashion industry may not be known for its inclusivity when it comes to different types of beauty. But campaigns like this one are highlighting women with skin you don’t usually see in magazine or in fashion ads. Women with various skin conditions modeled for Missguided, in a new campaign to embrace all skin types.
The UK-based online fashion brand’s body-positive campaign #InYourOwnSkin showcases 6 models celebrating their scars, freckles, birthmarks, psoriasis, albinism, and epidermolysis bullosa. Each model shared what female empowerment means to them.
“It’s important to listen and respect other women and recognize that there’s a sense of power together,” said one of the models named Isabella.
Another, Maya, described empowerment as “Women of all shapes and sizes working together and supporting each other.”
“It’s not just about being, it’s about being self-aware, confident and happy as a woman,” explained another one of the models named Polly.
Some of the women are well-known models, while other were hired with no experience in front of a camera. The campaign encourages the rest of the fashion industry to feature models of all different shapes and sizes that that aren’t altered or photo shopped — and display real beauty in all forms.
