Woman Celebrates Immigrant Dad's College Graduation

Jacpqueline Marquez praised her immigrant dad’s college graduation at 59 years old in a heartwarming Facebook post, and said he inspired her to pursue a masters in nursing.

My papi just graduated with his bachelors degree! At 59 years old. WITH HONORS! 3.8 gpa. He came to this country with no money, no papers, no English and worked for years to support us. Went from being a janitor/dishwasher to a future teacher,” she said in a Facebook post. “He’s truly the American Dream and the most amazing dad. He left everything in Mexico to give my family a better life and its an honor to watch him walk the stage just like he did for my brother and I. I still remember the times I called him crying that I was scared I couldnt get through school, scared I couldnt pay for it, scared I just wouldnt make it through life. And despite him struggling through school too, he never failed to be my biggest fan and push me to keep going. Te quiero mucho papi!”

He picked up his diploma with a decorated cap that said “Sin Muros (No Walls), All United.”

Hundreds of people have since shared Marquez’ post of praise.
