Ride-share app DriveHER is specifically made for women, so they can feel safe taking a ride home.
“The premise is to ensure the woman travel from point A to point B safely. Then also giving them the opportunity to reclaim their ride and reclaim their safe space,” explained the app’s CEO and founder, Aisha Addo.
Addo created DriveHER after an encounter with an inappropriate cab driver left her shaken. It launched in early 2018 and is currently available in Canada. It has built-in security if any woman feels unsafe in her surroundings — all users have to do is press an emergency button on the app that send live information to DriveHer, who can alert the authorities if needed.
“It also gives women the opportunity to report these incidents more because, for us, it’s also about women speaking up and it’s about women expressing when they feel uncomfortable, or they feel like their personal space is threatened in any way. A woman is allowed to travel having [peace of mind] and she should not be shamed for it,” said Addo.
DriveHER is still requiring more drivers, so any interested candidates can visit Driveher.ca and get more information regarding how to apply.
